American Design

from the cycle «History and Theory of Design»

American design has its distinct character. It's often possible to identify projects created by American decorators when perusing magazines. The same distinctiveness applies to American furniture and lighting brands, like Visual Comfort & Co or Fine Art Lamps, which are easily distinguishable from Italian or German brands. Despite these unique attributes, there is no singular style defined as «American.» In this lecture, we will explore the reasons behind the it’s absence.

While there isn't a unified «American style,» there are numerous noteworthy American decorators whose work might not be as familiar to the Russian public, which often pays more attention to French and Italian design. Despite global differences, the design preferences of clients in America often align closely with those in Russia. It is crucial to understand how our colleagues overseas respond to these preferences, their working methods, and the results they achieve.

During this lecture, we will discuss:

  • The distinctive features of American interior design.
  • Prominent American designers and decorators.
  • Leading American furniture and lighting brands that significantly impact the market.
