Methods of Working with Classic Styles in Modern Design

from the cycle «Modern Styles»

During the lecture, we will delve into topics such as historicism, neo-styles, eclecticism, fusion, kitsch, and discuss why it's advisable to avoid using the term «Modern Classics» in professional discussions.

In the twenty-first century, technology has advanced to a degree that was difficult to imagine just 20 years ago. We now take modern communications, electric cars, and unmanned spaceships capable of landing on flying asteroids for granted. We live in this brave new world. Yet, at the same time, many clients seem to live in a different reality, requesting designers to create palace interiors or, at the very least, modern interpretations of classical styles. Whether to undertake such projects is a personal choice for designers, but if they choose to do so, it's essential to execute the work thoughtfully and avoid blending Baroque and Classicism, Stalinist Empire and Byzantium within a single apartment while labeling it as modern classics.
